Climate Risk, Policy Uncertainty, and Energy Commodities
细分领域
The Journal of Commodity Markets announces a special issue on Climate Risk and Policy Uncertainty. The task of the special issue is to examine through rigorous empirical analysis the respective role of climate risk and climate policy uncertainty on various facets of energy commodity markets to include both non-renewable and renewable energy sources. Such research will contribute to the emerging literature on the economic and financial aspects of climate change.
With the growing concerns surrounding climate change and global warming, policymakers have focused attention on what some would call the energy transition from a heavy reliance on fossil fuels to renewable energy sources. The pace and feasibility of such an energy transition is certainly up for debate along with the impact of climate risk and the uncertainty associated with climate-related policies. In this context, the impact of climate risk and climate policy uncertainty on various facets of energy commodities is particularly relevant. Indeed, given the extent to which climate risk reflects systemic risk, the influence of such risk and the uncertainty surrounding climate policy on traditional energy commodity markets is worth further investigation. Climate risk alongside climate policy uncertainty also impacts the underlying investment decisions associated with the infrastructure of energy commodity markets to include the extraction, production, and distribution of energy commodities (both non-renewable and renewable). Not only does the lack of policy continuity affect the supply-side of the energy commodity markets, but also consumption by the end-user of both non-renewable and renewable energy commodities.
